History of  Macomb Alumnae Chapter (MAC)  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, the Macomb Alumnae Chapter (MAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was officially chartered by 61 visionary women who recognized the need for service within Macomb County.

The MACnificent Macomb Alumnae Chapter, the 1,054th chapter of our sisterhood, is committed to carrying forward the legacy of our 22 Founders across our 12 designated service areas: Clinton Township, Eastpointe, Harrison Township, Macomb, Macomb Township, Mt. Clemens, Roseville, Shelby Township, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Warren, and Washington Township.

A Vision Rooted in Perseverance
The road to chartering was not without challenges. Several earlier attempts were made, but each effort planted seeds of determination. Those seeds, sown on good ground, nurtured a vision that continued to grow until it blossomed into reality.

  • February 2019: Soror Melodie Snipes issued a call to all sorors residing in Macomb County. More than 60 responded, including many who had participated in previous efforts.
  • September 2019: Chartering efforts were formally led by Sorors Melodie Snipes and Janice Willis. Permission was granted to meet, set goals, and strategize. Sunday afternoon meetings were held in the teachers’ lounge of Mt. Clemens High School, where sorors gathered with excitement and determination.
  • December 2019: The charter application was submitted with 61 names to Midwest Regional Director Dr. Sarahjini Nunn Spencer, National First Vice President Cheryl A. Hickmon, and National President & CEO Beverly E. Smith.
  • April 2020: Amid a global pandemic, the chapter received notification of acceptance.
  • May 2020: Required trainings were completed, and the MACnificent Macomb Alumnae Chapter was officially born.

Our Legacy Continues
The chartering of MAC stands as a testament to perseverance, vision, and sisterhood. Today, we proudly serve Macomb County with the same commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action that has defined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated since 1913.
